Can I adopt?

Hi, first time poster and don't know anywhere for support...
I've been diagnosed with having blocked fallopian tubes and awaiting laparoscopy to try unblock the tubes. The waiting list is around a year. Me and partner recently decided to go through adoption route. We are quite lucky to have spare room and everything but am I going to be rejected because of my operation? It only says IVF but nothing else. If I got further down the line with adoption I would still want operation but would go on contraception if this is the case and focus 100% on adoption. Is this feasible or just not bother until after the operation?

Thanks

I think the only way you will know is to approach an agency and see what they say.
Its likely that it will cause you at least some delay. It may be less stressful for you to wait rather than have your assessment interupted.
How long would your recovery be, is there post operative treatment involved , do you feel unwell now, you need to weigh it all up.
Its really hard when you have made the decision and you just want to get on with it. But many people exprience delays whilst they get themselves in the best place to adopt, myself included.
Remenber its not a case of can I, but when can I adopt.
good luck, hope you get your surgery soon

What would the purpose of the operation be? Is it to restore fertility or is there another reason? If fertility, then I think agencies will make a difference between a fertile couple deciding to go down the adoption route and someone who is currently infertile restoring their fertility in order to go down the adoption route and have a biological point some time after. If the operation is for other medical reasons, you should be able to find an agency which takes you on.

If you wanted to try for a biological child, you would have to try for that child right after the operation, because the longer you wait the higher the risk that the tubes get blocked again - at least that is what a friend of mine was advised.
