SWF adopting a child who is BME

I wish to adopt a black or mixed race child- I’m a white female. I understand the ideal of children retaining their cultural identity and why this is important. However, more than this I feel that every child needs love and physical and emotional safety in a good home, as part of a family. This I can provide.

I know that there are more BME children awaiting loving homes, however have heard of the wait for BME adoptive parents.

Is it worth me progressing further (I’ve joined an information session, which reinforced to cultural match view)? However, the adopter who joined the session adopted a BME child. I don’t want to finalise a big decision with my loved ones, to then be rejected due to being white.

I predict I’d get grilled why and I know why!

@Birminghambloke
She said I wish to adopt a black or mixed race child
So yeah

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep She did not refer to ‘only’. Nor ‘brown’.

Some responses have been harsh and presumptuous (white saviour, collect ‘em all, rainbow family, ponder on sperm donation, lack of awareness, to list some I’ve read). Based on her saying she was white.

And I say this, as I’d imagine it adds to this, as a man of colour adopted by a white female. After facing physical abuse as a child in my birth family, give me love, consistency, a range of experiences and aspiration any day.

The 'only' was implicit. Semantic wrangling won't change her meaning.
Black and mixed race people are often colloquially described as 'brown'.
Your experience is relevant to your perspective here but others also have valid perspectives- mine is as a social worker, and mine is just as valid as yours.

Birminghambloke · 15/05/2021 19:29

Every person has a perspective. All valid. From their perspective. Doesn’t take from the fact some comments are not kind in words or tone.

Yours @Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep was kind- it turned the phrasing to one more fitting to a process. As I said before, I hope the OP saw it.

If the op had a valid reason for only wanting to adopt brown babies (reminds me of that Katy Burke sketch) then they should have explained that, as otherwise the situation does read as dodgy and self-serving
