Potentially about to be made redundant

Hi folks

Just at the beginning of process, attended prep trading and had medicals.
My partner is medically retired , so I am the main earner but it’s looking very likely that I’m about to be made redundant. Is both of us not working a game changer.
We have no mortgage, own house. No debt, savings 60k

Your thoughts please

You still sound like you're in a better position than most.

I don't think it is game over. I think you need to have a plan to present about how you can manage. You will need to get a job at some point but your savings will see you through for a while. Are you in a profession where you are likely to get another job easily?

Assuming you will be looking for another job straightaway, if you are only at the start of the process you have some time yet before it might become an issue
The questions that occur to me are

Do you have any other income, can you live on it
Who are you planning to be the primary carer - if it was you can you fund a years adoption leave. You may not qualify for any enhanced packages from a new job.
I wouldnt panic, but you do need a plan to demonstrate that you can manage. The worst case scenario is that you may have to delay until you have a new job.
Good luck, rotton timing.
I was in a similar position in the middle of matching with my now son, I got a transfer with a week to spare ! Flipping stressful but it worked out

The industry I am in, has been affected badly by covid, so realistically I am looking at 6 months to next year before being able to work in a similar position. Which isn’t doable as the agency have suggested that they are to fast track us to get us to panel within 6 months. Ideally we will both be around for the first year.

I Should get maximum redundancy as been with company 20 years +.

Have already been thinking of completely different employment ideas . So for example buying a white van and becoming a self employed delivery driver, or a person with a van, there is always someone looking for a man with a van, or a dog Walker or a postie, work in a supermarket. So I am happy to work albeit not in the industry I have been in.

Is the £60k including your redundancy package? In any case how long would your savings stretch covering day to day expenses? If you’re likely to be approved in 6 months it may be a year before you’re placed with a child, so lots of time to look at a “plan b”. I’d continue with the process on the basis that you’re financially secure and start to think about what you want to do, if a change is on the cards anyway.
