Attended our first virtual adoption support group tonight, was really informative and interesting!
We submitted our expression of interest form on Monday so now are just waiting to be contacted by a social worker 🤞

All the best with your journey. As you start this journey keep reading, researching and attending support groups and training. Meeting people who are at similar stages as you and others who are further through the process is so helpful. Once you are eventually approved and have a little one or little ones placed with you it is so helpful to have others around you who understand adoption. Good luck with your journey.

A word of advice regarding online forums. You will find some very good and helpful advice on these boards. Some very experienced adopters will share and support you on your journey if you need it. Something I learnt though in the early days when asking about processes and time-frames is to bear in mind that in the Uk we have four different jurisdictions, with four different legal systems and adoption processes. The majority of posters are based in England and the processes and time frames there are very different to both Scotland and Northern Ireland. Local support groups are therefore really helpful to get specific local advice.

All the best!

Thank you, yes we've been doing a lot of reading and research so far.

We're in England (Yorkshire)

@claireb7rg I am reasonably local to you and have a 9yo son placed at age 3. Any questions let me know! 😊

Thanks!

Got all excited today as I had a missed call and voice mail from a social worker at the agency. Sadly it was just letting us know that there is still a backlog (like they had already told us twice) and were we still ok with waiting for them. Which we are, happily though the wait has dropped from 6 weeks plus at August to 3 weeks.

@claireb7rg Don't worry, the time will fly. At least you are having good communication from the agency!

May I ask, was this a support group set up by the LA or agency you gave your expression of interest too or is it a general/open group?

It was for prospective adopters run by adoption UK, we've joined as a member and it was offered on their website

Another wave from God’s Own Country! Longtime single adopter of two non birth-related children here. Good luck on your journey (and please read the excellent advice above from pinklady).

shinkansen · 28/11/2020 13:19

@Moominmammaatsea she clearly did read it because as you saw she quoted and replied! Did you think that the fact that it was pointed out that there were four different countries particularly excellent? Thank you.

Moominmammaatsea · 28/11/2020 13:33

@shinkansen, who has yanked your chain this morning? I strongly recommend a cup of Yorkshire tea to help you gather your self...
