Adoption in New Zealand

I realise it's a long shot but does anyone have any experience of adopting in New Zealand, within the last 5 years or so?
We live in NZ and it's something my partner and I would like to explore but we're quite concerned about the way the government children's agency is hitting the headlines frequently in regards to forcible removal of Maori babies (long complex history but I can post a link for those interested. The usual story of racial inequality causing poor socio-economic conditions for the people who are original stewards of this land - despite our absolute willingness to be kaitiaki (guardians) of a maori child I could not live with myself if I felt I had benefited from an unjust system and taken a child from it's whanau and whakapapa.)
I'm finding it hard to find any kind of online forum for nz adoption, pretty much anything online is information from the government agency. We are not at all considering adopting a child from overseas. It would be so great to be able to speak to someone who had gone through even part of this process before speaking with the agency directly ourselves, to get a more impartial / truthful picture of how things really are. Thanks for reading!

In Australia they try very hard to place aboriginal children with aboriginal carers so that culture can continue to be passed down. I imagine it is the same in New Zealand - if you're not Maori you're very unlikely to be placed with a Maori child

Agreed - massive language and cultural implications in placing a Maori child outside of their community
