PPP+

DD’s school have asked us to bring in evidence that she is adopted so they can claim PPP+ for her.

The thing is, they aren’t going to use the money in any way to support her and to be honest I just feel like refusing. She always seems to be lost in the class as she’s not disruptive or attention seeking in any way and while the money would probably help meet another child’s needs, I’m fed up of her needs being overlooked because she doesn’t cause problems but bumbles along while we support her as best we can from home.

Has anyone done similar or had any success with the money being used to benefit their child?

You should ask them to outline what they are going to use the money for. They have to show how it will benefit your child . Solid evidence should be supplied. So no general resources for class etc unless they can evidence your child will directly benefit.
Also they should release a report online each year that details how all Pupil premium funding is used.
If they fail to do so then threaten to report to Ofsted. And then do it if they don't sort it out. Also report to the placing authority via their virtual head. They are v hot on this stuff due to tight budgets at present.

I am fed up with schools pulling this crap and using the money to top up shortfalls elsewhere!

Thanks flapjack, you’ve motivated me to do just that. I just get so weary from being made to feel unreasonable or greedy on DD’s behalf but I will as we all do.

I know it stinks. It is a constant battle to get what our children need. It is easy to get battle weary !

Have they not been claiming up to now?

Absolutely make sure they claim and push them to spend it on stuff that will benefit her.

What is it you have in mind that would benefit her? (Just curious)

I felt like this when mine were at primary school - I wished I'd never given them the proof for them to claim the money as they refused to support my kids even when they needed it.

Thankfully the senior schools have been much better at using the funding to support us. The great thing about my daughter's school is that they have a dedicated person responsible for allocating the funding for previously and looked after children so that it is not all linked in with general pupil premium fund.

Hi OP;
Don't get your hopes up, I even sent the School a copy of a letter from the Childrens Minister supporting my proposed use of PPP+ and they refused to entertain the idea because they couldn't see how it would benefit the school. they seem to get around the requirement to publish how they used it and how it benefitted children with generic bland statements which say lots but mean nothing.

@AngelsWithSilverWings DS starts High school this year and so far they seem to actually understand that being adopted doesn't mean he's now 'cured of adoption' and they had a designated person who had actually done some related training, so whilst not high we do have hope.
