Hi all , we are due to bring a little one home in the coming weeks who will be just under 1 years old.

I want to get some books in for bed time and story time and wondering what are the best ones out there to get.?

It's been a long time since we have had anyone in the family that has needed baby books so hoped you guys might have some ideas.

Mine have loved anything touchy-feely or lift the flap books (although DD has destroyed all the ones the other 2 grew up with and loved Sad you can buy the same books from waterstones much cheaper in some supermarkets.

'That's not my...' books are always nice
Spot books
Usborne do nice board books, and their Farmyard Tales set are also good.
We've got a big board book of 'my first 100 words' which is great for baby to point to pictures and you can say what they are.

Exciting times for you!

Try Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. Bought it for my grandchild who was placed at 1 year old. It’s a story for reading rather than playing with and has a lovely rhythmic pattern, ideal for sleepy little ones. LO loved it, it was a bed time favourite for a long time. The pictures are lovely too. Available as a board book.

Check out Todd Parr, he does some great books. I love you to the moon and back, no matter what, a mummy for choco, the that's not my ... and never touch a ... series are both great as very tactile. Books that rhyme are great

Mama, Do You Love Me? is still a favourite here. The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The Mog books. Room On The Broom. Mommy, Mama and Me. The Elmer books. Peppa books. Goodnight Tractor. The younger Oliver Jeffers books. I agree about Todd Parr.

Thanks for all your suggestions...
I've opted for the Goodnight Moon, The Hungry Caterpillar and a box set of the Spot books for now.

Dont want to get too much yet as not sure what FC is sending over. So will have a better idea in the coming weeks so i might be getting the rest aswell lol.

Look out for people giving books away on gumtree etc. When the charity shops open buy from there. Or Try the works too. We have so much books (over 400!!) that we discover new ones all the time from our shelves. We have most of the ones mentioned it the popular ones are often read at school and nursery so sometimes finding one from an unknown author can be good fun. I wouldn’t buy too many ‘baby books’ either but lovely picture books. Baby will love just snuggling on your lap looking at the colours, listening to the story. It’s such a lovely intimate time with little ones.
