Mice 😱😱

So for months I've been telling my husband I could hear noises in the walls or ceiling and he told me I was paranoid (I have a MASSIVE rodent phobia) today he found a mouse in a trap in the loft!!
Does anyone know is this likely to cause an issue with adoption? Would they postpone our adoption because of mice?

If you don't tell, I won't tell !

Unless you are absolutely infested to the point that they are not sat in your living room drinking tea when the SWs feet visit, then I'm should think you would be ok.
As long as you deal with it, you might need a few more mouse traps, or a cat.

If you think you have a serios problem get the professionals in, even if only for your own piece of mind.
I quite like mice, moths are a different matter, I will leave the house if I see one

I don't quite understand the link?

Ted27 · 11/05/2020 19:46

@avroroad many adopted children will have been removed from less than hygenic homes. Adopters are held to higher standards than birth parents.
I'm sure no one would want to have any vistors in their house if they had a mouse infestation, let alone a Social worker who has enormous power over whether you become a parent or not.
@fakinit3 sorry for the excess of typos !

@Ted27

Mice infestations can be dealt with. It's not going to stop an adoption unless it is left to worsen.

Ted27 · 11/05/2020 20:22

thats what I said @avroroad

fasparent · 12/05/2020 01:49

Our cat is an idiot Ted, don't eat and kill them brings them home as a present for me alive and kicking plonks em down then they run amok in the kitchen.

Ted27 · 12/05/2020 09:14

@fasparent mine is evil, likes to chase them round the kitchen, too mean to give then to me. Fortunately he is too much of a wimp to go after birds.

Fakinit03 · 12/05/2020 16:33

Thank you for reassuring me @Ted27, unfortunately to my complete horror we think it may actually be rats and we've only caught young ones!
I've been on to environmental health, adult safeguarding and pest control!!! Having an absolute freak out!

I moved into a house with rats and they are really hard to get rid of. In my experience private firms are much better than Environmental Health.

Fakinit03 · 12/05/2020 17:18

Environmental health is to with the neighbour that's causing the problem, council pest control are coming out tomorrow, we can't afford £400 quoted by the private firms

Stinkyjellycat · 12/05/2020 18:13

Wow, we weren’t charged anything like £400. Maybe I need a career change 😂

thistle52 · 13/05/2020 08:46

We had mice first time. But the council got rid and it’s not been a problem since. Get it sorted ASAP

Fakinit03 · 13/05/2020 09:28

I literally rang everyone I could think of yesterday, environmental health, pest control and adult safeguarding. Didn't feel like I was getting anywhere but Pest control have just rang they're coming out today and we aren't getting charged as it's an ongoing problem, they're also gonna get an enforcement to enter next door to sort it out, they've said they can't sort it out without getting in there
Our neighbour will hate us forever but I don't care, I'm so happy actual action is taking place!

Having lived through a cockroach infestation which took TWO years to eliminate Envy not envy, I would say that anyone can have a pest infection Grin

Responsible parents - well, people - tackle the issue. Adoptive parents don't have to have perfect lives, but they do need to spot what needs doing to keep their child safe, and to act on it.

Which you have done!

But no need to tell the SW unless they specifically ask, just as there is no need to tell them that the car failed its last MOT but you got it fixed and it passed the second time around. It's just standard life maintenance.
