First home visit from a social worker 're a child is now booked!! Ekkk! Anyone happy to share... what happens? What will they ask me? What can I ask them ( I have 101 questions but not sure what I can ask?!) I'm trying really really hard to not get too excited as I know they are also seeing another family but... it's soooo exciting/ scary !
Ohhh and how long till I find out whether it's a yes.... or a no? How long did you wait? Xx

How exciting for you - how long did you spend searching etc?

I would say, at this point ask questions to help you understand whether this is a potential match for you, whilst not forgetting to sound like you care about the child behind the profile.
e.g.
You need to know reasons for care, medical status, emotional/behavioural status, expected contact arrangements so you can decide whether to proceed.
But it is also helpful to ask a bit about softer things like what the FC says about the child's character, to help you build a 'picture'.

Questions about day to day routine, likes & dislikes etc are secondary at this stage.

Read between the lines.

We had this meeting last week - I know how Eeeeeeek it can feel but it felt really relaxed all in all and they were very reassuring.

They asked us how we would deal with certain situations (like the boy we like of the sibling group has not made any strong attachments to the male foster carer but has with the female one, how would we deal with this scenario, how will we cope with the insecurity of the girl having potentially been exposed to alcohol and drugs during pregnancy) they also wanted to look around the house. We asked them to see recent pics of the little ones, how they were doing generally, we talked about potentially the little ones regressing after the move, they asked us how we would deal with that, we were asked if we would be happy to meet the birth parents and if we were ok with the foster carers driving them down here (as they live about 2 hours away). All in all it felt really relaxed and more like a conversation than an interrogation.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

I can't remember what questions we asked but I do remember that we got a request to come into the office because LO's SW didn't think we were excited enough. We were the only family being considered so didn't have that issue to consider but I found it hard to make conversation with some stranger that was in my house for 30minutes! Most of our questions were for the foster carer and it almost went against us.
Be enthusiastic!

Thank you everyone, some good advice! I've been making a list of questions.... and am very very excited lol so hopefully that will come across but will make sure I show it!

It's really difficult being put up against another family... but I keep telling myself... if it's the right match for me.... and the child... it will work out and if not... then I guess it wasn't meant to be. But... not being chosen.... that's gona be tough!

It's all happening really fast which is equally exciting and terrifying at the same time! I was only at panel last month and first " showed interest " in this child a few weeks before panel.
Fingers crossed Xx
