Happy New year mumsnet ! What is everyone's hopes and thoughts on 2019? I'm exited it's so full of potential. Me and my dh are hoping to expand our family and complete it, we are at almost at the end of stage one but the dbs check is really dragging it's heals for us and quite a few apparently.
So I've been talking with dd and dh about what this year may bring, we could potentially be meeting our child by the end of 2019 if we are lucky.
What's everyone's hopes for 2019 ? I'd love to here them and how you are all getting on in your marathon! Smile

Hello pinkgirl77 welcome! I bet you are looking forward to starting your training? We found day 1 and 2 quite intense but if strengthend our decision to proceed with the adoption process. We are really looking forward to doing day 3 and 4 . It's definatly a marathon but will be so worth it. Our la does things a bit different you complete all preparation training in stage 1 alongside getting references and dbs sorted, our personal profiles have been completed. So once our dbs checks decide to hurry up we will hopefully get invited to stage 2 where it's home study then too panel 😊

I am a birth mum. So my hopes are pretty different
I am hoping I have the strength to meet the adopters in a couple of weeks. I also hope to continue therapy.

I am still pretty unwell so just want to survive.

We were saying the exact same thing this time last year! This has without doubt been the craziest, most exciting, scariest years of our lives so far. Finished assessment in February, approved May, approached about LO in June, a painful wait for panel in September and LO came to us in October.

The wait feels like an eternity but when the time comes and you are getting ready for LO you will be running around like a (unbelievably happy) maniac! I fondly remember going to get all of LOs furniture and having to practically sit on the dashboard because the car was so stuffed.

Good luck for the journey ahead!

Hi,

Good luck with your journey, it certainly is one. I’m out theother side having celebrated a year since my little one was placed with me.
One piece of advise I can give which your stage 2 SW may pick up on is your wording of “completing our family”
Depending on the age of the child you adopt that mindset may project on to them and make them feel pressure to be perfect and good in order to complete everything for you. Sadly many children will come with their own history which will make things tricky for them and you.
I hope you don’t see my comment as a criticism, it’s not intended that way.

Oh wow woolly socks 18 how lovely! It feels like an up hill marathon at the moment but I'm sure it will get easier for us. I can't stop thinking of finally getting through the whole process and if I'm really lucky meeting my future child. Our youngest lo is 8 years old and has cerebral palsy do we've been recommended to look for a child about 5/6 years old ?

I’m hoping to start adoption November this year. I’m waiting to pay off some debts and for my 6 month old puppy to grow up and calm down. Why did the DBS check take so long? I have read quite often that for adoption DBS takes time, yet my husband has one for work and it’s quick. Is it an admin delay with the LA or Agency perhaps?
