I'm new to mumsnet, and just wanted to say hi. I live in Ireland and have 2 great kids ds adopted 5 yrs ago from Thailand , and dd adopted 1 yr ago from Vietnam. i know the system in ireland is very different to that in the uk, but if i can be of any help to anyone thinking of going down this route i'd be happy to help. Nice to meet you all!!

I wonder if there is more need for black rather than asian or in our case oriental families? All good to know though.

i think that SS use the term black in the political sense...y'know, "not white"

but i thought it might be worth checking out anyway

Of course I forgot, there are just 2 races in the eyes of some SS - white and not white!!!

I think that white is regarded as "neutral"!
I have come across some cases of non-white children being placed with white adopters whereas in the area at the time there were non-white adopters awaiting placement but they were deemed to" have a culture already"!!!!! They would of course have had an appreciation of what it's like to be in the minority, maybe dealt with racism etc etc
