www.theguardian.com/society/2017/mar/26/adopted-children-meet-birth-families-face-to-face-contact Amanda Boornan made it work, wonder if others will be as kind. Not sure we will be lucky though

I would like face to face contact for my adoptive son. I'd love him to have that link to his past and to see his birth family love him. But I feel that has to be my adoptive a sons choice. Right now he is too young to make that choice as he is a toddler. Also his birth mum hasn't followed through with letterbox. How would my son feel if she failed to turn up for direct contact?

How disappointing that the article did not look at Northern Ireland where direct face to face contact with birth family is very much the norm now. This is not an unusual arrengement here. It has positves and negatives attached to it but as with anything adoptive parents are allowed to take the lead in this as time goes on in making decisions as to what is right for the individual child at a particular stage in their life.

Beth Neil, who is quoted in the article, was a guest on the adoption and fostering podcast recently. It's definitely worth listening to.

Interesting.

Not sure it is something I would want for my son. I kind of do, because it would may be help him understand where he comes from but not sure it would make him feel more secure. Might make him feel less secure.
