School Photos:Has anyone got a copy of that letter?!

Ages ago someone posted a letter they wrote anonymously to parents in their AC's class, explaining why they would prefer photos were not shared online. It was really good and I thought I copied it but can't find it now.
It's class photos tomorrow and DH is leaning towards letting AD be in them, as our risks are not huge and he says current facial recognition software couldnt pick her out of a group.
I am more wary, ie technology advances and some family members may search at a later date. But don't want to start pulling her out (or doing one with and one without).
So I was going to send the letter as a halfway house

I haven't got a copy but came on to sympathise as we've had class photos today. I spoke to HT who arranged for children's classes to be done first, then.o took them in late. They're old enough to have been told it's to help keep them safe as we wouldn't have control over who can see the picture but they're not happy about missing out Sad

This has come up yesterday in another group I am on. A number of people have suggested that the photographer in their school takes a class photo with their child in it and then one with them not in it. They get the picture with him in it for their keepsake/memories but the rest of the class get the one without him. I though this was a good idea. It will depend though if the child will understand why they are then taken out before the next photo etc but something you could consider.

I discussed this with my dh and we both actually felt that the risk of a parent posting a whole class photo online is quite low. Whole class photos tend to be just for keepsakes at home. I don’t recall seeing whole class photos on my social media feed for any of my friends and I have some snap happy posters on my friends list.

Lots of people are now posting class photos online of when they were at school themselves . So often photos taken before the internet when nobody could give consent/refuse consent for the photo to be shared with the world. Perhaps this is something to consider, i.e. whether you think it might be posted in ten years time or so when people look back to their child hood (and whether that would matter to you and your child).

The decision was happily made for us as she is quite camera-shy anyway and informed me she didn't want it taking...I was happy to go along with that and told school it was for security reasons.

As she gets older and her features change I think we can be more relaxed about it. I also agree that not many (current) class photos get put online.

Our children's school take photos in small groups and then the company puts the small groups together to make a composite class picture. My children are photographed individually and added to a second photograph that only we as a family can buy.

Our security is high, we have already moved once - house and school - as 1 photo was put online that a parent posted of DC singing in a school concert.

One parent said to me casually - ooh I always buy a copy for my DC grandma who lives in X, the same area my children were born.....you simply never know who knows who.

We also dont tell parents that we have a separate photo ....I assume that other parents think my children were absent on photo day as they do not appear to be in the picture. The photo is pinned to classroom door for everyone to see also.

For us it is simply not worth the risk - parents and FB are bonkers sadly.
