Hi there,

We just finished our 2 year battle for a step father adoption. Happy days the judge granted the adoption and has set the ceremony date but the problem is we are away in South America and returning to UK on exactly the date of ceremony but late evening. I'm a bit worried now and not sure whether they can postpone it or make us change our flights? I tried to get in touch with them but they are all on annual leave so i thought someone here might know. Thanks

My son had chicken pox the week before ours and we were worried we might not be able to go as our daughter might have got it. Our social worker said it's ok to reschedule if we felt the need. We just would have to speak to the court and they would rearrange it.

Thank you so much. I feel much better now knowing that. I hope they will rearrange for us too.

No problem. Good luck :)

Nothing! Its not compulsory, its not even part of the legal process. Being away in South America sounds a much more fun way to celebrate than a 20 minute celebration in a courtroom

Have fun

I rescheduled ours. Wish I hadn't bothered. It really wasn't worth the effort!

I think people's experience of it varies tremendously, its partly what you make of it.
It was very important to my son, he was nearly 9 when we had ours. He was acutely aware that there were legal processes, he desparately wanted his moment in court and hear from the judge himself that this was IT, otherwise I don't think he would really have believed it.

I think the cake, party and presents afterwards also went down quite well!

We had to reschedule ours and it was no problem at all .

Mammabear14 · 25/03/2018 18:32

We were told we had to attend ours that it wasn't optional!

thomassmuggit · 25/03/2018 18:43

It's totally optional, and complete waste of time, from our POV.

Can make a difference as FC's most memorable was meeting child age 2 at the court was full of beans and confidence, showing how she could dance , spin around , introduced us too her nana's and grandpa's without a prompt from any one. A most heart warming occasion.
