Adoption Allowance

I was wondering how many of you have been given adoption allowance for your children if you've adopted recently? Does anyone know what the thresholds would be to qualify for this? The child we have been matched with is meeting all their milestones currently but has been exposed to alcohol which may mean they need longer term support. Would we be able to argue this case or would they say as they are doing ok now that it wouldn't be possible?

We get nothing. Child placed in June. Situation sounds similar. Think it would be highly unlikely as no one knows what the future holds for anyone.

adoption allowances are very difficult to get these days. I seriously doubt you would get one in anticipation of future need. Many adopted children have been exposed to alcohol.

Mine has and while he has a number of issues they don't seem to be particularly alcohol related. I adopted 6 years ago and do get an adoption allowance because they wanted a single adopter, and because of his additional needs it would be difficult to work full time. But he was nearly 8 at adoption, already in receipt of DLA and had a statement, so his level of need was known.

My DC were placed in August and we were very surprised to receive an adoption allowance. We qualify bevause our children were considered hard to place across a number of different measures, although they don't have SEN or a diagnosed disability. We were very surprised as was our SW, it literally wasn't discussed until the matching panel said we were eligible - in saying that it's very welcome because it gives us choice about work and childcare that we wouldn't otherwise have.

My DD was placed last Summer and has a syndrome meaning she gets some DLA, she was 5 at placement and considered hard to place for a number of reasons. The LA says this qualifies us for an allowance but as it is means tested we can't have it. I am currently too tired to argue with them.

We get one for our third 'in recognition of the added financial strain' of a third child but this was almost three years ago. We were surprised to get anything to be honest but glad we did as it's meant I was able to go part time for a couple of years while they were small

We had 2 children placed in 2017. We have AA for both. They both have additional needs. It is means tested annually though.

Our local authority has a points based system which is also means tested. You wouldn't know if you didn't ask though. Call up post adoption and ask.

DD placed at nearly 4, now 12 very complex needs tube fed, very active colostomy and requires X2 weekly infusions....done by me. We get , wait for it 162 pounds/week. It is means tested but DH and I are OAPsBlush so do not have massive income.
Am very grateful as I am able to have a cleaner (massive house and other children (all adults with SN all at home)) Not recent but still ongoing. Good luck.
