We had a full developmental assesment done on DS today. Nearly two hours of shape sorting and putting blocks on top of each other and walking etc etc... goodness it was exhausting. Felt like I was doing an exam. First time a doctor has examined him since we got home and the result was...

Based on his adjusted age (he was a 2lb 26 week premmie ) he is absolutely on target for his age physically and mentally he is about a month ahead. No orphanage delays left at all, this from a child who didn't sit up unaided until he was 12 months! No obvious signs of problems from the prematurity, in fact if the blood tests (for anaemia etc) come back normal he doesn't want to see us again.

The doctor kept saying to me "and you've only had him home three months?" .

Well done both of you! Great news

WigWamBam · 22/04/2007 10:36

Lovely news, Sue. I'm here beaming all over my face but I'm welling up again.

You're both so lucky to have each other; fab mummy, fab little boy.

motherinferior · 22/04/2007 10:41

Sue, how absolutely lovely.

mysonsmummy · 22/04/2007 11:10

sue - last week in tescos osterley i asked you for the money off coupon in your trolley (for ds summer clothes) i looked at daniel and i thought OMG where do i know that little boy from. you must have thought i was very strange cos i kept staring. and then i realised who it was. (i followed your story while you were away) couldn't come over as felt bit like a stalker. small world lol. hes so gorgeous - much more beautiful in the flesh.

MrsJohnCusack · 22/04/2007 11:29

oh I hoped this was you
well done! I wish I could see him - however, am sort of planning a trip back this winter, so maybe I could meet him then.

AitchTwoOh · 22/04/2007 12:43

he is very handsome, suejonez... good to hear about his milestones, you're obviously making him very happy indeed.

lulumama · 22/04/2007 12:43

that is fantastic sue, and a wonderful testament to you as a mother

suejonez · 22/04/2007 16:47

mysonmummy

I am soooo glad I smiled nicely and said yes "of course". How embarrasing if I'd said "no, push off you old bag"

Isn't that funny - you shoudl have said something. I'm often there (as is paddlechick) next time you must come and say hello.

I should add that anyone who knows me will confirm that I relly am a very ordinary mummy but tnh thats all children need to flourish isn't it? Just lots of love, an avocado or two with a crust of bread - he seems happy with that!

MrsJC - I'd so much love to show him off to you if you come home over the winter. How's your DS?

Brilliant news!

mysonsmummy · 22/04/2007 23:09

sue it really was the weirdest thing. i thought no it cant be (like i know you - see i said it was weird). daniel was quite happily sitting in the trolley taking everything around him in. i can only imagine how many times before he became your darling son that you sat and daydreamed about doing everyday things with him by your side. so happy for you both. he is such a lucky little boy to have you and you him. i was thinking the other day how quiet my house would be and how lonely if ds 5 was not by my side.

MrsJohnCusack · 23/04/2007 06:19

sue - my DS (that's STILL weird) is lovely. 6 weeks now, still sleeping at night, v,cuddly, loads and loads of smiles - just gorgeous.

will definitely come and admire your DS once we've saved up enough to come over (we have to for complicated and tedious inlaw reasons, but I am insisting on at least 2 weeks to catch up with all my friends and family in and around London, even if it means the hell of travelling back to NZ on my own with 2 children...)

can't get over your OP, it's SO FANTASTIC!

suejonez · 23/04/2007 20:26

why come back over winer you mad fool - at least leave it to Spring...

JackieNo · 23/04/2007 20:27

Is that your winter, or our winter, MrsJC?

MrsRecycle · 24/04/2007 10:45

Oohhh Sue am so so happy for you - I know he'd be okay but we always have to worry don't we ("thats what Mums are for" as dd2 tells me all the time).

2Cute · 24/04/2007 13:47

Excellent Sue!

He's great at scoffing down food! (man after my own heart!)

suejonez · 02/05/2007 20:12

Beemail - sorry just realised that I rudely never answered your question. Yes I am still in contact with the otehr familes who adopted at the same time, I think of them as kind of extended family I have a photo of DS with one of the other boys when they were 6 months so they have known each otehr longer han they have known us! I set up a small yahoo group for us (and the children) to stay in touch and so far they are all doing well - testament to the care they received in my view.

sorry just read this. That's great and gives them all the potential for so much support and friendship when they are older. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?
So glad to hear of his progress so far - it's amazing how children have the capacity to "catch up" isn't it. SO much progress in so shorter time-well done Daniel and you too, he obviously has come to a great family.

time4me · 30/11/2007 19:37
