Hello everyone, just wanted to hear some thoughts on this. We are lucky in that our child's support from school has been great but he doesn't have an EHCP and the amount of funding he uses is well beyond his pupil premium money. The school are currently funding extra support themselves (1:1) but I'm not sure for how long this can continue. What have your experiences been? Many thanks.

Could seek After adoption Support from After Adoption Support fund need too contact your LA,s Post Adoption support service for a Assessment of needs. Funding is around £5000 pa and a possible referral £2000 for Specialist referral assessments.
Google First4Adoption Click on support has references at too how funding can be used.
Would consult with school as well. , and other well meaning professionals.

Many thanks for your response. He is having music therapy from the post adoption support fund and we are looking into assessments next term. It is more his day to day coping within school. Just wondered if others felt they needed a higher level of funding.

Pupil premium doesn't prevent the school accessing other funds for him. Is there a reason they're not having him assessed same as if he was any other pupil who required it?

Schools could access Pathway planning assessment with schools outreach Schools Statutory disability team , this could bring on board OT, Speech and language, support services etc, and access too level II Funding in the interim too completion and perhaps a Final assessment by Educational phycologists leading too a EHCP is they feel this is appropriate. Either way additional support could be accessed on your journey ( this is how it's supposed too work in actual practice, how others have experienced it is not always the outcome)

My experience has been terrible. DS needed emotional support and counselling and this was provided at the Infants school but withdrawn without notice by the Junior school as the head didn't believe in counselling. This led to him having a breakdown and needing therapy from the local post adoption team.

The school then made him attend catch up classes in English that they were providing for the children who get PP even though he was top of the top set in that snd most other subjects. They were just ticking boxes.

They have , for two years , refused to provide additional support for my DD as they said she didn't need it and was working at expected level. Luckily the post adoption team arranged for an Ed Psych assessment which actually showed that she was 2 years behind. Hoping now to get some help in place but I won't hold my breath.

Getting my school to part with any of the pupil premium funding has almost impossible. We have resigned ourselves to paying almost £200 in additional private tutoring just to ensure she reaches the expected standard in Maths and English when she takes her SATS in two years time.
