Hi all,

We have just started the adoption process and we need to get experience with 0-3 years. Any advice gratefully received.🙂

Thanks all, I guess it's just figuring out the best way to do it. All my nieces and nephews are older, so we do have experience but not for a long time now. 😕

Sure start centre? Private day care nurseries?
Do you have any friends you. Pups spend time with who have 0-3? Better still could your LA put you in touch with recent adopters with kids in that age band who would be willing to chat with you and meet up?

Rainbows or Brownies. That's what I do and really enjoy it.

SilenceOfThePrams · 12/07/2017 19:23

Vanessa rainbows are usually a bit older than that!

Hi Silence

True, but our agency said any experience is better than nothing Grin

I'm also looking for ideas for experience with children beyond my friends and families children. Sure Start says you need parenting experience to volunteer which is not overly helpful! Anyone successfully volunteered with them?

Toddler groups based in church halls and run by local churches for 0-4 tend to welcome volunteers if you enquire.

HI OP, I went on volunteer websites as they're always looking. Found a couple of toddler groups seeking people to read and sing to children under supervision which I applied for.

Was upfront with them and told the reason why, not had recent or constant interactions with children, hubby is a teacher so he is fine. Been working an hour a week during term time with a group since January. As it's supervised didn't need a CRB check and get to sing (badly) nursery rhymes, tell stories and ensure children behave appropriately during that time. It's been a great experience. Good luck.
