Hi one of the things that came out of our initial interview was about reading more about adoption.
I was wondering if anyone new of any good books in particular before I buy up every book about adoption on amazon

No matter what was my Best Buy
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1849054312/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1448726845&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=sally+donovan&dpPl=1&dpID=51Iubx7EMdL&ref=plSrch

She's written a newer one too but I've not read it yet.

We were advised to read about Foetal alcohol spectrum disorder and I have found a book called "FASD- parenting a child with an invisible disease" very useful.

GodMother78 · 29/11/2015 20:40

Ok where is that available from MrsH1989?

Sally Donovan's books 'No Matter What' and 'The Unofficial Guide to Adoptive Parenting' are the best places to start. Amber Elliott's 'Why Can't My Child Behave?!" is my current saviour. Oh, and Margot Sunderland's 'What Every Parent Needs to Know'. The last one isn't specifically about adopted children but is extremely useful and helps explains some of the science behind child development and how this influences behaviour.

Thanks EtheltheFrog15 I have Sally Donovans No Matter What. I was wondering about her other book whether it would be helpful or not I will look at Amber Elliotts as well as that comes up as a suggested read on my Amazon account

If it's possible, I would say the second Sally Donovan book is even better in terms of condensing sensible practical advice, alongside her personal experiences. Another vote for the Amber Elliot book here too. Other authors people rate are Dan Hughes, Bruce Perry, Kim Golding, Bryan Post...of those, I prefer Dan Hughes but it's a personal preference.

Yes, another vote here for Amber Elliot.

GodMother78 · 01/12/2015 07:08

Thanks guys this is very helpful. I will definitely check out Amber Elliott and some of the others mentioned
