Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

My lovely boy went on his first residential school trip last week.

We have had our share of problems over the past 2/3 years at school but school have (belatedly) got onside and so far Year 5 is shaping up pretty well (fingers crossed and touch wood and anything else that might help).

However he does have a bit of separation anxiety still and witnessed a traumatic event at the end of school in July which set him back a bit. He also has a major league phobia of bugs (and a million other things!) and their residential trip was to a nature centre and involved mini beast studies and small mammal trapping out in the woods.

I've had a couple of meetings with teacher beforehand and thankfully SEN manager was also going.

Can you tell I was a bit anxious?

He was a star. He coped with the bugs, using the strategies we'd discussed. He joined in with everything, and asked 194,326 questions. Pretty much managed to stay out of trouble (pretty much...).

He got back yesterday after 3 days and 4.5 hours sleep.

"I didn't miss you Mum - soz an' all" (he appears to have morphed from a nine year old into a teenager in 3 days)

He keeps asking me today "Are you proud of me?"

So proud I can't say it without getting soppy.

The last few years have been a bit two steps forward and 1.95 steps back.

This is a two steps forward week.

ChocolateJam · 26/09/2015 14:09

What a fantastic milestone, well done mini-Kew!

Fantastic, what a Star .

(You may remember I had a thread going in the spring about DD2's first residential, and you all helped me through that. It did DD2 no end of good)

I knew it was your post, Kew. Well done mini-Kew. What an achievement. I am clinging on to stories like this because our DS is still not sleeping well and insists on sleeping next to me...

Love the teen speak. Really quite hysterical!

Kewcumber · 26/09/2015 18:40

Yes I do remember Sanders in fact I thought of you when writing it!

HEls he didn;t really get out of my bed until her was 7 and its been patchy in and out ever since with runs of staying in bed and runs of getting in with me at 1-4am.

I think he is very pleased with himself though he's trying to be cook about it.

He's also getting Mindfulness training from school EP in November - which I think he might be more receptive to this year as his class is so much calmer this year.

To add to the excitement of the weekend he's been called up to play in goal for the new football club he joined this term tomorrow. It's the A team so it's quite a big deal for him.

I know it will all go tits up again at some point but it's (relatively) calm for now.

Wow Cucumber, re "I didn't miss you Mum - soz an' all" (he appears to have morphed from a nine year old into a teenager in 3 days)

That is great news. How brilliant, I bet that 9 year old will re-emerge. My 10 year old is a tweanie but the 1 year old re-emerges occasionally!

Italiangreyhound · 26/09/2015 23:23

10 not 1 of course!!!
