Social worker meeting

Is it normal to meet a child's social worker without receiving any information on the child?

We did, but it was prior to their placement order being granted, therefore there wasn't anything to send us as such and until PO had gone through they were limited on what they could tell us. We were literally told gender and ages (siblings) prior to meeting. Have no idea if this is common, or indeed if PO has been granted it is done this way in those circumstances. Certainly with the links we considered prior to that it was not the case, but it does happen, as it happened to us...and they were the most perfect match ever

The back story is...
We saw a potential link at an activity day. Was too busy playing with him to ask his social worker any questions.
We expressed interest and now his social workers want a meeting with us. We literally know nothing about him not even his age.
Just didn't know if this was common or not.

Seems a bit silly for his social worker to do a 2 hour drive if there is something what we wouldn't be comfortable taking a child. If that makes sense

Well, the whole point of activity days is that you go in with an open mind on gender, age, additional needs etc. so maybe that SW takes that head on with the follow up meetings too!
2 hours does seem a long way to drive though for some basic details not to be shared first. We had a potential match through an activity day and we had information sent through before the meeting. Maybe social worker saw you playing and just has a good feeling so wants to meet you in person! Is there a chance that with so many adopters and children at these days, plus some heavy SW caseloads that she/he thinks they spoke to you already?

I would ask the sw for more information before they come all this way. As a previous poster mentioned, he/she might think they've already forwarded it to you.
