Wow, congratulations to imkeeping and to TracyC too! How exciting!
Missus, after it has basically been decided that you are to be a certain child's parent, you go through a process of 'introductions' in which you get to know the child, and the child gets to know you. Usually, you will never have met before, though you will probably have seen photos and perhaps videos, and, depending on the child's age, they may have seen photos/videos of you. At the end of the introductions, the child moves to your house, and well, that's it! So in effect the 'intros' form the bridge between never having met each other before, to living with each other as a family unit.
How the intros go depends on many factors. Often it starts with short visits of the adopters at the foster carer's house, gradually increasing to longer visits, proceeding to having the adopters take the child out for a few hours, later for a whole day; and proceeding to having the adopters be there when the child wakes in the morning, and be there to do bedtime routine in the evening. Sometimes it also includes an overnight stay at the adopters' house, then going back to FCs for a few days, before the final move. Usually intros last between one and two weeks, though they can be shorter or longer if needed.
Intros can be totally shattering; so getting back to imkeeping and TracyC, enjoy! But don't forget to look after yourselves!
