Adoption leave when fostering to adopt

Hello, firstly thank you to the regulars on this board. I have found it so so helpful and reassuring in my hopes to become an adoptive parent.

I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this, I am hoping to become an adoptive parent through fostering to adopt. My understanding is that until very recently, adopters were unable to claim adoption leave or pay when in the fostering stage of the fostering to adopt plan as they would not have a matching certificate.

I thought that all this was due to change from April 2015 and foster to adopt adopters and those on a concurrent planning pathway would have the same rights to adoption pay and leave as other adopters. The problem is, I can't find anything stating this anywhere to show my employer. Does anybody know of anything?

Thank you

Hi it's on here:
www.gov.uk/government/news/landmark-children-and-families-act-2014-gains-royal-assent

"adoption leave and pay will reflect entitlements available to birth parents from April 2015 - no qualifying period for leave; enhanced pay to 90% of salary for the first 6 weeks; and time off to attend introductory appointments. Intended parents in surrogacy and ‘foster to adopt’ arrangements will also qualify for adoption leave and pay"

No problem. Good luck! My lo is currently asleep in his cot. He came to us at 6 months under foster to adopt the week before Christmas. We're now matched and back on the adoption path now.

Wow congratulations, that is really lovely to hear. I'm so glad it all worked out for you and your lo.

The one thing I learnt about foster to adopt is that there's so many variables. Our situation changed constantly, we were linked with little one when he was just 2 months old but the LA weren't convinced f2a was best at that point so we had to wait for placement order and then he was placed on foster to adopt with us to avoid the delay until matching panel.

Sorry if I sound thick but what does "no qualifying period for leave" mean??

I thought it meant that. Gov website says 26 weeks that's why I got confused
