My 10yo ADD with motor skills in bottom 1% did a distance swim today.

She swam 120 lengths (3km)!! , it took her just under 2 hours!
Last year she swam 70 which was quite a feat, but this was a massive step up.

Very proud. Grin

Goodpresentideaplease · 07/03/2015 20:36

Wow, that is amazing for any child at that age let alone one with extra challenges! Well done!!

morethanpotatoprints · 07/03/2015 20:39

Wow, you should be so proud of yourself too my love. Thanks
Well done to your dd what an absolutely fantastic achievement.

Hadron21 · 07/03/2015 20:39

Such a lovely story. Congrats x

Stillyummy · 07/03/2015 20:40

Well done little lady :)

jonicomelately · 07/03/2015 20:43

That's an incredible distance. Were you allowed to walk along side her while she did it? She must be exhausted now.

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 07/03/2015 20:45

Thank you.

When she got out she said "I'm not doing that again!" but throughout the swim she had a big smile on her face.

She's looking forward to taking the certificate in to school once she gets it in a fortnight. She is general poor at school sports compared with peers (and being small really doesn't help for running and netball), and she struggles with schoolwork too, so to have something to be praised for there is really good for her.

My DH swam in the next door lane and kept pace with her, which motivated both of them to keep going I think.

She's at a party right now (!), DH has just gone to collect.

Yay for Saunders Jnr!

BitterChocolate · 07/03/2015 20:51

Well done MiniSanders.

jonicomelately · 07/03/2015 21:48

I imagine your DH will be tired after that too!

Italiangreyhound · 07/03/2015 21:53

Fabulous. Thanks

MrsBungle · 07/03/2015 21:53

That's lovely. I love reading the nice stuff on here!

Fantastic Smile

LastingLight · 08/03/2015 06:24

Wow, what an achievement! I couldn't do that.

hopefulpuffin · 08/03/2015 06:29

That's fantastic! My DS is 7, has similar motor skills issues and we're awaiting an ADHD diagnosis. He has
finally started private swimming lessons and I can see slow progress.

I hope he can be like your DD in 3 years' time. I'd even do the swim too! Grin

Weebirdie · 08/03/2015 06:33

Just fabulous :)

Noteventhebestdrummer · 08/03/2015 06:37

Wow, that's excellent! If you can find a cool violin teacher like me who loves teaching determined kids who don't necessarily find playing easy then that can be really good therapy and powerful for building self-esteem too.

Well done, :) brilliant Flowers

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 09/03/2015 12:47

Thank you all.

I'm sure the swimming has been great for her coordination skills, and general core strength.

No way is she learning the violin though!

Wow well done to her! That is some feet and many adults can't manage it.
