Adoption

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

BAAF biscuits (light hearted)

I'm beginning to think that BAAF are missing a trick here. All those books etcthey sell are nice and useful and stuff BUT what they really need to offer are selection boxes of special "Biscuits for social workers" for anxious would-be adopters to present. Bet they'd fly off the shelves!!

You really don't need to put (light hearted) on an adoption thread - we all have finely tuned radars and are quite happy to rip the piss out of almost any situation at a moments notice...

But your suggestion is fatally flawed because having standardised biscuits would take away that most basic of a social workers arsenal - what do the biscuits say about the prospective parents?

Rich tea - too cheap
Digestives - not trying hard enough
chocolate digestives - just about right
dark chocolate digestives - just about right but veering into the intellectual
Marks and spencer mixed chocolate covered belgian biscuits - trying way too hard and must have something to hide.

Italiangreyhound · 30/01/2015 19:11

Kew darling what does this say about me!

Choco-leibniz

Italiangreyhound · 30/01/2015 19:11

Oh and that's me in the picture to!!!!

UnidentifiedSighingObject · 30/01/2015 21:15

Home-made biscuits - ideas above their station
Custard creams - too old-fashioned
Jammy dodgers - not mature enough
Giant cookies - feeders
Shortbread fingers - trying to avoid talking by prolonging chewing time

Perhaps BAAF could market a selection box, so breaths could be held collectively every time someone's hand lingers over the box, to see what they choose next?

Question about their work-life balance. Hmm, they chose the jaffa cake. Will they expect the child to squeeze in between all their current commitments and keep quiet?

Lilka · 30/01/2015 22:11

Hmm...Leibniz sound too foreign, it's veering into the intellectual territory. Also, dark chocolate.

Hobnobs - About right, especially if they're chocolate hobnobs.
Party Rings - Getting way ahead of yourselves in the process here
Bourbons - Unsuitable because you clearly nicked them from your workplace food store, along with some mugs and a mountain of pens
"I made some healthy organic snacks instead of biscuits" - doesn't bear thinking about

Nice to see you Italian Wink

Choco Leibniz are clearly foreign and indecisive (chocolate or biscuit??)

We had a SW who cheerily ate biscuits and asked for a couple of recipes for things I made

But we also came across plenty who wouldn't touch anything other than a slowly sipped glass of water. In other circumstances I'd have offered them champagne and chocolate cake Smile

Italiangreyhound · 31/01/2015 00:43

FamiliesShareGerms - Choco Leibniz are clearly foreign and inclusive (chocolate AND biscuit!)

UnidentifiedSighingObject, Jaffa cakes!!! they are cakes not biscuits. I think they would signal confusion!

www.jaffa-cakes.com/jaffa-cakes-biscuits-name

What does your choice of biscuit mean???

www.her.ie/life/revealed-what-your-favourite-biscuit-says-about-you/30963

Pink wafers - no substance
Duchy original organic orange biscuits biscuits - more money than sense
Chocolate fingers - a bit too 'fabulous' children's party food

Wow, so glad I no longer need to choose which biscuit to serve!

Actually had to convince social workers was trying to lose weight so I used to put out the FRUIT BOWL!!

Hahaha I have BMI "concerns" so I was so worried they would think all I do is scoff cakes I brought out a fruit platter (along with the biscuits!) Mine were lemon cake fingers (from ASDA.)

YummyBabycakes · 31/01/2015 09:58

HAHAH Italian, great minds....

Italiangreyhound · 31/01/2015 11:09

Jameme what do you love me for, the fruit bowl!

Penthesilea1498 · 31/01/2015 11:26

Our SW likes the Liebnitz - but I don't eat them in a very deliberate way!

I feel guilty for not baking but a full time job makes it tricky!

Penthesilea1498 · 31/01/2015 11:27

Sorry I'm new don't want to 'barge in' meek voice hello. ??

UnidentifiedSighingObject · 31/01/2015 12:46

Hello Pent, welcome. Have an ironic Biscuit

Kewcumber · 31/01/2015 13:57

I'm sooo not commenting on what anyone looks likes on the basis that I have met some of you

Pent newbies have to raise their hand and wait to be asked for their contribution.

Sadly we have no raising hand emoticon...

Thank you Italian, I admit to being a bit of a dufus about Mumsnet emoticons. I'll just be at the back here probably eating ill advised biscuits.
