Adoption and pregnancy treated equal or not

I am due to start uni in September, and we have also been approved to adopt just two weeks ago.

We were told by sw and adopters who we've spoken to a while ago not to put our life on hold, and that I should continue with uni application so I did.

So at the moment were in the period of waiting to be approached with a potential match. Part of me says I should decline my uni offer as we might be matched soon, and the other part of me says to start uni then take a break once were matched. I know that if you are pregnant you can take a year out of the course ( I know people who have done it, and it says so in the registration pack) however I just wondered, when I approach them about me potentially leaving as adoption a child, what the chances are of them treating my circumstances equally to if I was pregnant. Has anyone else been in a situation where they have been treated differently or the same? Am I even making sense?

I know I might need more than a year out, and that also I may never get to go back to uni as our child might need a parent at home, but to start with I will look to take a year out then reevaluate

Not the same, but employers tend to treat adoption leave the same as maternity leave on terms of time off, full / reduced pay etc. Or better, in some ways as men can take it all too, unlike the paltry 2 weeks statutory paternity leave.

In your shoes I would start the course and see what the position is when you are matched: introductions might be some way off, and you are in a better position to ask to take a break or move to part time study if you are already doing the course.

I also say start the course. It took us 15months to be matched a few years ago. Don't put your life on hold.
