Travel question

Just wondering if anyone has travelled abroad with LO before the adoption order was granted? We have a passport for LO from BF and are looking to travel to another EU country in a few months.

Other than the required paperwork/letter from the LA, what do we need, eg should all the documents be translated into the language of the country where we're going? Anything else?

In my experience - You will only be asked to show the permission to travel on return to the uk at passport control.

Medically, dd caught tonsillitis and they prescribed medication with no id etc.... Although a serious emergency may have been different

Just as they are really.... But have 2/3 copied of each document incase you and partner have to split or you need to leave them with anyone

Happy holiday

X

I think you do need the local authorities permission as they still hold parental responsibility. I was told while my son was in foster care they would have to get my consent to take my son out the country (foster carers that is) but the la could take it to court if I refused if it was deemed in child's best interests.

I took my child overseas before FAO. I had a letter from her sw in English and another in Spanish just in case I was challenged over there ( this was post Madeleine McCann when a little girl not looking all that like me might've been an issue at border control) so her sw took a very thorough approach.
Aside from that I took contact details for my sw and hers in case of any incidents or emergencies.

paintedsigns I assume you are doing all the necessary things to reassure you little one you are all going together and coming back together. Our child is newly placed and we want to take him to see family in a place not that far away and social worker has asked us to get photos of where we are going etc so that he will not be too upskittled by the whole thing. If your little one has been with you a long time this may be less of an issue but any change could be quite scary.

We did not use our own cases for his move to our house so that when we bring cases out for a holiday it will not remind him of the move to our house, which was quite traumatic.

Hope this is not teaching your grandmother to suck eggs as I am a newbie! Grin

Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Italian, yes, thanks, we are doing all that is needed. But I appreciate your suggestions! Not our first trip, but it will be the first time abroad, and it is to see family and some very close friends.

We have done a week away within the UK and prepped LO with photos, book focused on going on holiday, keeping things low key and replicating LO's routine as much as possible (also bringing toys and other familiar things from home). We also explained repeatedly and clearly what to expect. We were prepared to cancel at any point. But it was a surprising and resounding success-LO keeps hoping we will go back soon. No doubt having me and DH on tap 24/7 went down very well Grin

I worried a bit about maybe seeing some regression on our return, but no, it was fine. We did some post holiday wrap up things with LO and it was just fine. Went really well, actually. But we (especially me I suppose) am fairly militant on being consistent and following through on things as promised, as well as explaining what is happening/going to happen in advance (within reason). It can be repetitive (but I know that's LO's way of checking things). It also can be tiring, but I/we really believe it is worth it and that it makes a difference.
