Meeting Up

Hi Everyone - this is my first post! My DS is 2 years old and he has been with me for the last 2 months. Everything is going really well, I would like to meet up with other parents for a chat or play date - it would help break up the day. If you are in the Shirley or Kingsheath area and fancy meeting up that would be great.

Hi Jennifer and welcome to mumsnet.

I'm sorry I'm miles away from you! But I'd love to hear a little more about your adoption journey. Just remember not to post anything identifying about your son, it's so easy to forget that mumsnet is public

You'll find lots of support on the adoption threads, we are a friendly bunch :-)

Hi Jennifer , we live close to you but have just started our adoption journey. Maybe in a years time we will be lucky enough?

Thanks Guys. I started my journey 2 years ago, I did the prep course in summer 2012.

I have read some of the posts in relation to the prep course - be open minded and start your adoption network. This will be invaluable once you have a child(ren) placed with your family.

I had a great relationship with my social worker and that is really key, this person will know your history and your present and its important there is a relationship of trust and honesty.

For those of you out there that a not perfect - welcome to the club - no one expects you to be. Your life experiences good and challenging make you the person you are today and make you more capable as an individual and a parent. As long as you are prepared to give a loving home where a child's needs are prioritised, willing to undertake some hard work and make necessary adjustments to your lifestyle then you are off to a great start.

Why don't you ask your social worker if there is a support group already up and running in your area.
If not, start one yourself, ask for names of a few families and take it from there.
That is what I did 12 years ago.

Thanks Moomoomie! Great idea - I was thinking the same thing!
