Helping an adopted child with goodbyes

Good friends of ours are moving away soon. We have spent a lot of time together and my two and a half year old has developed a close attachment to one of them.
I've realised all of a sudden that he has actually become the most significant male figure in her life. (I'm a single adopter).

I would really appreciate any advice or support or 'been there, done that' experiences that any of you might feel happy to share, either on here, or via pm.

I've tried to explain it to her, but she's just not getting it :( and I want to do my best t support her as much as I can. I am going to miss them, but at least I understand where they are going whereas I can see her little face not understanding or being able to process it all.

We will be able to Skype, but its unlikely that we will see them more than once every few years. Unless I win the lottery of course, in which case a few holidays may be on the cards....

Thank you in advance.

Hi happysunflower not sure if I am the best person to reply as this has not happened directly to us, although we do have a godson whose family moved to London and my dd was/is pretty friendly with the older son. We still meet once a year and it works well as when they see each other they get on really well and it is like no time has gone by since they last saw each other.

These may help...

Children can be quite resilient. I really hope she will cope well with this.
