Has anyone adopted an eastern european child, latvian or polish? From here or abroad?

I'm afraid I don't personally know any adopters who have children with Polish or Latvian heritage. One of my children has part British part Russian ethnicity (I don't have any Russian heritage myself)

I recall a feature in BMP with two women who adopted a polish baby in the UK. I'm certain one of the mothers was either Polish or from another EE country. Certainly near my area there are quite a few children in care with EE ethinicity, so there must be some more adopters out there somewhere.

You may find some international adopters who went to Poland, but I don't think it's a program people really enter from Britain. Very rare to adopt from Latvia, as only older children (like 9+) so very rare for people to choose it

Hope you find some people :) Are you considering a child who is Polish/Latvian?

I have been asked to consider either as part of my matching criteria which I am as although I am white british I dont have any problem with either ethnicity. My question initally was what physical appearance do either race have as I am fair and blonde with small features and dont know if either are dark skinned or strong features etc. and also what have others done in terms of cutural aspects of their children upbringing.

Meant to add this will still be a british adoption as the county I am adopting in has both communities.

To adopt from poland intercountry you need polish ancestry so doubt you'll find many Uk residents have done it.

My Russian teacher was Latvians - don;t know a huge amount about the country but ethnically I would say "slavic". For Poland think German.

But ethnically I think the chances are the child will be just as similar oor different to you as a ethnically british child is likely to be (if there is such a thing as ethnically british child!)

Child who has purely Polish/Latvian heritage will usually be a fair-skinned child, eyes and hair any colour. The black Polish/Latvian population is very low. There is still a small Roma population in both countries, but SS will count being Roma as a second seperate race/ethnicity from being Polish, so doubt you'd get asked to consider such a child if one was free for adoption over here
