We have been offered a sibling to our adopted daughter and due to finaicial restrictions of one salary we have reservations, does anyone know the crieria for allowances and amounts available as we would very much like our daughter to have a sibling.

We adopted our eldest's half sibling 20 months after having our 2nd son (no blood relation) placed.

Because SS asked that we take her we were given a boarding out allowance until the AO was finalised. It was around £100 pw. After that though nothing.

you need to ask the placing agency.

amount depends on the age of the child and any special needs. they should be based on the fostering allowances, so woudl be in the region of £120 per week for a NT 0-2yo

We have been given adoption allowance of £100 per week (for 2 children) for the first 2 years the kids are with us. Our social worker and the matching social worker really pushed the kids' social worker to provide the allowance. The reasoning was a bit flimsy (we thought) - they successfully argued that we needed funding to ensure that hubby and I could have enough time away from the children - they are paying for us to go on dinner dates! We were really pleased.

I think it comes down to individual social workers and how much you push them and how willing they are to fight your corner at the finance meetings.

Make your money concerns really clear to your social workers - be bold and ask for the money! And ask for more than you need - and not just in terms of money - use the same strategy for support services. Treat it like any other negotiation!

Good luck!
