Once you are at the home visit stage with LA, what are the chances of getting through and getting approved to adopt?

impossible to say. many families do not make it through the home study

once you get to panel you have a good chance of being approved

once you are approved, your chances of getting the type of child you are approved for depend on supply and demand, plus how "desirable" you are to placing social workers

On my prep course, one of the social workers said was we were there because they felt, at that stage, that we would be approved adopters. They assumed that most of us would be approved and they even had specific children in mind for some of us.

That is NOT to say that you should assume you are home and dry. All sorts of stuff can emerge through home study that can cause problems. But I think you can assume that the social workers are starting from a position of thinking they like what they see so far, and so consider it worth investing resources into taking you to the next stage.

I would agree with you there Hester - that has been our experience too (in a nutshell)

When my friend went through the process, her social worker quoted 94% of families who go to panel pass it, only 6% are not approved
