I really recommend the audiobook:

‘How to own the room – women and the art of brilliant public speaking’

really helped me relax and slow down and be myself.

good luck!

I train PGRs on conference talks and we play the telephone game. The idea is that after being whispered around the circle the core idea should remain - it forces people to be clearer.

One way I like to think about it is if someone were going to cite you in a paper why would they be citing you? Is it because you had a great a method? Typically at MSc level it would be because you found something interesting so tell them that.

A few years ago I had a 5 minute lightening blitz talk on a massive project and I did start with the findings but worked well and I finished early (30 seconds!) I echo those whi say don't go over.

There is a 3 minute thesis competition and you may find some useful tips there.

Good luck!!

Thank you @Wafalamani think the whole process of speaking is cringey but I really want to do it well! I’m autistic so probably overthinking massively! Thank you for suggesting I skip methodology, it was quali and interviews. Maybe I need to mention who and why wrt my participants though

Yes the who and why is possibly relevant as shows who you are impacting. I am sure you will be fantastic...as with any things it is practice that makes you better

Remember that no one will be as passionate about your research as you are - you’ve lived it and poured time and energy into it and every bit feels important. Other people, while interested, won’t want all the ins and outs, and you don’t have time for that. So focus on the difference it will make, and possibly further work needed in this area. Signpost people to where they can get more information eg if you have a poster presentation or they can contact you directly.
