Hi

Does anyone have any good ideas beyond my usual Mentimeter and Padlet use for interactivity in big lectures please? I do rely on these along with some youtube and paid discussion. Always open to new ideas!

Thanks

Poll Eveywhere is quite easy and I've used it in large lectures

I'm interested in getting a bit of variety too! Have previously used padlet.

Nearpod is interesting although can be a bit childish in terms of graphics.

Kahoot is fun for getting some competition going, but I think there are limits on the number of participants with the free version now.

Slido is also good - a PowerPoint plugin, integrates very well with PowerPoint presentations.

Miro is good for interactive whiteboard type things.

zoom whiteboards have also come a long way

Another vote for Miro here, but I tend to use it for interactive online lectures. Can use in conjunction with breakout rooms in Teams to have groups working on problems or scenarios.

For face to face I've gone back to printed worksheets as an interactive activity- gives the students something to look at and talk about to each other. I probably have smaller numbers than you (30 ish) so it might not be easy with a bigger group.

I'm about to try TopHat as an interactive tool - looks like a mix of mentimeter and Kahoot. (I used to like Kahoot but students were so used to it at second level, it lost the novelty value).

Really interested to hear any other options.

I deliberately don't use any of those things. They seem to me to be tools to facilitate students not speaking to each other or to the lecturer. I gave a lecture to some 3rd years last week and getting them to answer questions or have short discussions in pairs was so difficult. This time next year, they will be in employment, where they will be expected to interact with human beings and I worry that many of them will struggle.
