This is going to cause financial headaches for those universities heavily reliant on international fees to balance the books as the planned restrictions will put off students

The inevitable ballooning of international applications this year to beat the deadline will take some managing too

Another pr attempt to paper over the real issue. Just like the ££££ being spent on refitting a barge for max 500. Students and their dependents make up a relatively small proportion of the migration figures and most do leave afterwards.

Not to mention the fact that international students contribute £40 billion to local economies, create long lasting and positive networks to the UK and generally return home after their studies are complete

Yes, the 'soft power' outcomes from international students is substantial.

This current government is just slashing and burning.

Once the news starts to filter out about degrees not being awarded due to the marking boycott demand may fall a bit anyway. Anecdotally family abroad have said that the U.K. is increasingly being seen as dodgy choice. Undergrads are going to places like The Netherlands and postgrads to the US .
