Crick salaries

Not an academic but a very. experienced mng in an RG univ with super reputation but organisationally is a fucking mess. I'm drowning and seeing PS and academics colleagues coming down with me and I'm tired of it. Especially now that there is lots of "accepting change" shite going on with no real substance to it, which my experience (20+ years, in HE) tells me is massive and sly "organisational change" happening - basically cut backs.

Anyway, I've seen a job at the Crick Institute that is totally within my reach and would give me chance to specialise in research mgmt (again) BUT they don't advertise salary. On enquiry simply say it will be based on skills and experience. So aside from all the reasons this is WRONG from an equality point of view, does anyone know what Crick salary scales are for PS. Specifically this one, which has closed but i'm interested for future moments of despair www.jobs.ac.uk/job/CHS757/grants-manager-international-post-award

Can't help with salaries - I'd have thought similar to those at its uni partners. However the closing date is today....

I know I've missed the chance (only saw on sunday) so really asking question for future. Though tbh the absence of transparency does not warm me to it as an institution.

If you browse their own jobs page you can see that salaries are listed for most admin roles and these are in line with those in universities. They may well have to work within national pay bands set by UKRI.

The phrase "salary dependent on candidate profile" is commonly used in universities for professorial roles & analogous senior levels in professional services. I would guess that this is what is going on here.

It's worth searching jobs.ac.uk for similar roles to get a rule of thumb. As pp have said, the Crick will need to be in line with similar roles at London universities.

n.b. the UKRI comment by @qudylogra reminded me of this news report from last week, that a £23,000 payout was awarded to a scientist at UKRI after she was demoted while on maternity leave. It's so shocking to think that a quasi governmental body breached its own rules in such a blatant way.

you can look at UCL's salary scales here - there is likely overlap with Crick and many people have joint contracts.

Thanks everyone. I am well versed in uni, UKRI regs etc. Just wanting to get a feel for Crick as some clearly advertised, some not. Maybe I should just work my own Crick contacts but not sure how to find that time ever!

I used to work there, it's competitive, in line with a London university role. Also some flex, I'd imagine, in line with UKRI bands now perhaps?

It's also the best place I've ever worked ever and was literally just saying to DH why nothing will ever come close! Go for it!

goldpendant · 12/08/2021 23:20

And that role would be a negotiable salary, I'd expect, based on my experience there.

I am in a similar boat to you OP. Am looking for another job, similar but not identical area to you. Maybe we should form a support group?
jobs.ac.uk is a mess and doesn't have useful categories for PS jobs IME
