Lecturing sitting down?

I have arthritis and am steadily getting more and more disabled. I haven't lectured FtF for nearly a year now and am worried how I will cope. I'm going to OH (they know me) but can anyone suggest what they might advise? I really don't want to lecture from a chair - would something like one of those walking sticks that you can lean on be good??

Is the height thing an issue? As in you don’t want to be at say dining chair height? What about something bar stool height so you’d still be almost standing height?

Sorry if I’m way off!

A friend had a high chair put in the room she was using so she could sit behind the computer and yeah from there while being visible. She would've been able to walk around for some of the lecture, but not the full two hours.

Thanks yes - I'm thinking 'perch' or 'lean' rather than sit. Thanks Mindy.

some lecture theatres have a bar stool at the lectern anyway. if that will help you, definitely ask for one because it should be easy for the university to provide it.

In the Before Times I had a colleague with a similar problem and after a referral to occupational health they got given a fancy wheely high stool thingy for use when delivering face to face lectures

I broke my foot a few years ago and had to do some lecturing sitting down - I found a higher chair (basically like a bar stool but with a back!) definitely felt better than a normal chair - the extra height was useful.

Or in your case would an old fashioned lectern at proper height (i.e. leaning height when you're upright, with no bending forward needed, unlike those computer desk ones) be any good as a halfway house for now? My current campus has them in some rooms and OH can have people prioritised for those rooms if they need them (or could have in the Before - given the current extreme pressures on timetabling everyone's accommodations this autumn (when we were f2f) seemed to turn into 'teach this class online').
