Hi!
So I'm almost 31 and have 4 LO's 9,6,4,2. I haven't worked since I had my first child and have decided that I desperately want to persue a career in law, with the eventual outcome of becoming a legal executive/solicitor.
I would have to do this by distance learning as I don't always manage to get child care and my DH works on an oil rig so is away for a month at a time.
Originally I looked at doing the BA of Law degree through Open University and then do the LPC. However, after some online research on various forums, there seems to be alot of conflicting information from graduates who couldn't secure employment in the legal field at all. Then somebody suggested doing a CILEX level 3 course alongside doing a paralegal role and eventually progress to level 6 to become a legal executive.
I have emailed a couple of career advice companies one being the Law Society, but still haven't heard back so I just wondered if anyone here with knowledge of the legal sector could recommend which would be the best path? Would I be better off getting my foot in the door as a paralegal while training and studying CILEX and working my way up...or is it more desirable to potential employers having a BA Law Honours degree?
I should also mention that I have got good GCSEs but didn't obtain A Level qualifications. But there aren't any pre entry requirements for the Open University so that should be ok.
Thank you in advance!
