Oh what joy! Teaching Monday-Saturday

We've been told that, to allow for social distancing, classes will be timetabled Monday-Saturday, 9am-9pm. Can you imagine teaching a class of 10 students (of which 7 will probably turn up) on a Saturday evening for two hours? I usually run my seminars by dividing the class into groups and get them to discuss material. That's not going to be possible with social distancing. There's going to be a lot of tumebleweed moments.

I unfortunately could teach almost anything in my department - and we already have 9-7 lecture hours - an unhelpful junior colleague was muttering last year about how unfair it was that she was teaching till 7 and I didn't have to - not quite sure what I'm supposed to do with my DCs during the 5.30-7 slot when after school club is closed. It will be even worse this coming year as one DC may have no after school club at all and the other one is unlikely to allow babysitter pickup (when they were in nursery we had a babysitter who could pick up but she could only do about 2 slots in a year so basically I couldn't teach past 5).
If you want a social life you can have it on another day. If you don't want to be prosecuted you can't leave your small children home alone, or put them on pause till another day.

We also have no research leave except in "exceptional circumstances".
