This is a feminist meeting organised by the group A Woman's Place UK. It will happen in Oxford on Friday 25 October and is ticketed: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-womans-place-is-at-the-lectern-tickets-75579284675. The speakers are using their twitter profiles to give more details of what they will speak about and according to the publicity there will be a Q and A afterwards.

Thank you. I would love to go but don’t live anywhere near I am afraid. Also, quite frankly I would be worried about the backlash and potential violence from the idiots protesting. I applaud those academics who are attending and I hope the meeting goes smoothly and that the haters and losers don’t cause too much disruption.

I've been to other meetings organised by WPUK. While there is often protest, WPUK very good at organising security and I have never felt threatened (though I have seen some women wear scarves and dark glasses if they are frightened of being 'outed' by protestors - often these are students). The meetings are a bit addictive due to the solidarity there. Thanks for your support @Pota2 and hope you can come another time.

I’ve been to one WPUK meeting which was relatively near me (still had to dash for the last train though), and it was great. Really well run and security pretty good- police outside and lively female (feminist?) security inside.

I was in the middle of dealing with a serious complaint against me at my university for transphobia, made by a student I’d never knowingly spoken to, let alone taught - in a completely different faculty from mine. So I really appreciated the solidarity of that meeting.

I’d go to the Oxford one except it’d be a 3 hour journey and I’m teaching till 6pm (on a Friday afternoon - I know!!!)

I take Dr Kathleen Stock’s view that we all need to be open about these things. The more of us who are, the less power goes to the MRA extremists who are using the trans cause (who have some legitimate complaints about general societal discrimination) to attack women, and particularly feminists.
