How important is student feedback in your institution?

Just that really. If a student provides negative feedback (e.g. Lecturer comes across lazy/uninterested/hostile etc what consequences (if any) will there be?

They are obsessed with the NSS at the places I've worked at.

I don't think so unless it was repeated feedback from several students.

I've had feedback for the same session before where the feedback has been at both ends of the spectrum. Some students saying they loved it, found it inspiring, etc amd others saying they found it as dull as fuck.

Sorry for the late response - I'm with Nico - its would only be if a number of people were raising an issue, or if someone made a formal complaint. The odd grumble on a student feedback form wouldn't lead to anything serious. You can't keep everyone happy, after all. All you can do is cover your back the best you can so if anyone does complain you can offer a swift rebuke.

We get called in for a meeting if the quantitative student feedback is below a 3.5/5. We are asked to discuss reasons for this and identify strategies to make sure it doesn't happen again! But I don't think much happens if you consistently had low scores apart from them not trusting you to teach, which means it can be a strategy to increase research time
