Is this normal and would it piss you off?

I’ve worked in academia for years in an academic related role. I’ve recently moved into a new role which is teaching. It’s basically the same line of work to my previous roles - just classified differently.
Anyway, I’ve been assigned to my first programme and the programme lead has recruited a student intern to do the work I should be doing (my role is newly created but she knew I would be on team).
When I make suggestions, she say but X (intern) said we could do it this way. I’m trying really hard not to let my ego get in the way, but tbh I’m finding it a bit insulting. I’ve been in the field for 15 years!
I might be a bit sensitive though as I left my last job due to being sidelined.
Any thoughts? Is this standard in UK unis (was overseas before)
Thanks

P.s if it’s relevant we’re on the same grade!

So you & student-intern have exact same job duties?
Why would someone defer to a student-intern's work plan over someone with 15 years experience? That's confusing (too).
Is this a problem of you not understanding usual procedures in UK because you only just arrived, and student does know UK ways because they have been in the dept. recently & knows the usual ways?

I imagine ways to handle this have to do with deferring to your boss while pointing out the advantages of your ways:

"Do you prefer to do it the student's way?"
"Is [my way] going to be inconvenient?"
"I find that [my way] is better/very good because..."
"I could try [student's way] but I expect [these problems with student's way]..."

The programme lead is not my boss - we’re on the same grade but she’s leading in this programme. I don’t think its not understanding procedures. I’m English just been working abroad. Unless there’s something I’m unaware of in HE.
I think it might be because the university had to pay the intern and she has to show that it was worthwhile or something?
What the intern has recommended isn’t crazy it just work work in this particular context.
She also has an odd habit of asking me to do my part of programme. So I do it and send it and then she requests a meeting to discuss it without actually looking at it. So she hasn’t actually looked at what I’ve done before telling me what the interns recommendations are.
It’s all just very odd. I’m also wondering if she might want to retain control of this part of the programme as she has had some recognition for it before...

And to actually answer you question 😀
The intern has being doing some research for the programme lead in the area of my expertise, but no not the same responsibilities.
