Fixed-term university contract and maternity leave

Hi was wondering if anyone had any experience with this... I have been employed as a Research Fellow for the last 5 years at one university... started a PhD after a year, had one mat leave and am now coming to the end of the PhD (officially entering write up phase in November)...my external funding has been extended till the end of December to finish a project... due my DC2 in Feb... I should qualify for SMP as I fulfil all the criteria... I presume I will not qualify for OMP as my contract will have ended... but getting some conflicting answers on that... does anyone know if I can start receiving SMP after I have left? I have a job to go to and will not actually take maternity leave till 38 weeks (if all goes well) and need to make those pennies stretch...

OMP policy from HR:
For employees whose contract ends during the period of parental leave (of whatever type), e.g. end of fixed term contract or redundancy, xxx will pay the appropriate occupational pay entitlement until the last day of employment. After this date, if an employee is entitled to statutory pay, this will be paid until the end of the 39-week period, plus any outstanding annual leave.

Is your job after the PHD in the same university? Otherwise I read it as you will get SMP only as they only pay OMP until end of contract date

As long as you are employed in your 25th week at the uni you will get SMP

the job is not at the same uni but at least I will be employed up till 30 weeks or so...have found some more information...apparently SMP will start as soon as l leave my uni job (as it is less than 11 weeks till childbirth)... one can't choose when to start to receive SMP in this case...nevermind...thank you for your replies x
