Anyone moved from research to support role?

I’m on temporary research contracts and sick of it - even though I love my field. I’ve been offered a promoted role on a permanent contract but more cross departmental support role. Don’t want to give too much away but it will be an interesting job on more money and less fruitless work e.g writing grants, editing papers. Anyone moved like this and loved it? Having a little wobbly but am definitely going as fed up of temping

How much time would be available to work on your own stuff (assuming this is important to you?). We recently interviewed for a role like this and told candidates they could expect the equivalent of 1 day a week for their own research. Plus of course there might be synergies with the work of some of the other people you'd be working in... I'm a lecturer and this is more time than I get to do my own research - I was tempted to apply for the job myself (except ours was temporary, sigh). In your position I'd be really tempted! Also, how important is teaching to you? Is there scope for some guest lecturing here and there? Though this sounds like a role that you could potentially apply for lectureships from if you did decide that was important in the future

If it's a permenant job and you have no intention to try for a lectureship, go for it. Ask for that one day a week to do research/lecture to keep that door open for you.
