Hello everyone!

Due to overwhelming demand ( one email ) I thought I would start up another writing challenge. Post your writing targets, large or small, to be completed before Easter (31 March).

All welcome!

Sounds like you're making progress, well done.

My article that was out for peer review was accepted (without revisions!). Finally!

Co-author has replied and sent me a draft of his work so far. It looks good but isn't yet finished. But it looks like we might squeeze two pieces out of it now, so I'm cheered by that.

So I am going to work on knocking up a rough draft of this piece that has been sitting in the back of my mind for the last few years. I've booked myself into a writing retreat to ensure I actually do do that.

Congratulations on your paper 🥂🥂

I was soooo thankful! It was rejected a number of times for being too innovative/too different so the wait was was quite nerve-wracking.

Right, only a few months late, but I am checking in to mark my progress and set myself up for the summer.

Great things:

I managed to write, send off, do the revisions and have accepted for publication a piece I have been kicking around for the last few years. Hooray!

I discovered that a book chapter of mine has been revised with the addition of two co-authors for a new edition of a book but I have still been listed as an author. Bonus!

I was invited at short notice to a conference, wrote a paper and discovered that they are to be published in a book later this year.

Good things:

I finally met my co-author to discuss our paper. We've made progress and he's agreed to finalise his bits before I need to work in my analysis on top of his data.

Not-so-good things:

CUP rejected our book proposal, so we've dusted it off and sent it elsewhere. Fingers crossed. I'm getting tempted to see if I can submit my chapter as an article somewhere but it would be really bad form to do that right now.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 10/06/2018 11:23

I've had two papers submitted, one to be submitted by the end of the month, and two work-in-progress. Not bad for a part-timer. Wink

Hi I was just thinking I should note my summer goals here, as motivation...
They are to write a strong article from scratch (on an entirely new topic and area so going to take a lot of work). Draft by 6 July.
Use July and August to prepare a second article and grand proposal in tandem.
I'm expecting editor's comments on a monograph to arrive on my desk at some point so the latter two goals maybe pushed. But if I get that first article done in the next 4 weeks I'll feel I've achieved something and the rest is a bonus. I want to enjoy the summer too!

iveburntthetoast · 11/06/2018 14:09

I'm struggling to get going today so thought I'd list my aims for the summer:

  • Finish off/tidy up chapters 1 and 2
  • Write chapters 3, 4, and 5
  • Make progress on a project for impact/public engagement.
It doesn't sound a lot, but I'm already doubting I'll come close (I have a disbility that tends to flare up each summer and leave me out of action for up to a month). I'm really hoping I stay well for this summer.
Yogafire · 11/06/2018 19:30

iveburnt that sounds like a lot. Almost a whole book in one summer! I'll be chuffed with 1.5 articles, or 1, + 1 planned

Oh, gosh, this thread is shaming me. I had such good intentions, then we ended up moving house and my time just went down the drain.

I'm still ploughing away at my book, getting steadily closer to done, but it's been much slower than I wish.

Yogafire · 12/06/2018 20:56

Congrats on the new house LRD Smile
I spent today trying to write a simple abstract for a workshop next summer and failed. Its only 300 words ffs
