Worried about failing my PhD

Hi,

I'm looking for some reassurance I suppose. I've just heard that my supervisor's student failed his viva and was downgraded to a MPhil. I'm super worried now. I suppose my worry is how was he allowed to submit if it wasn't up to PhD standard? I've worked damn hard on mine, and I'm close to submission. I just can't afford to fail. Any advice or tips please?

Harriedgymmum I can relate, I'd never do a PhD again! In fact, I plan to run fast away from academia. My supervisory experience has really put me off academia. Not again

Lweji I have published from my thesis in good journals. Not all of it, but about approx. half. This definitely gives me more confidence, but I don't want to take any risks.

I can't see there being any major problem if half of it is already published, as one of the key criteria is publishability!

bountybars thanks, that's reassuring to hear.

Oats - that's a good sign that you've published. I haven't. Gulp - this thread is getting me worried!

allegretto don't worry, the vast majority of supervisors wouldn't let you submit a thesis that wasn't ready to pass. My concern is only because of my supervisor's poor track record.
