Going on holiday without DH - Bedruthan Steps a good option?

DH has just announced he wont be taking any time off until October because of an issue at work.

Will it be worth while splashing out £1700 for a week at Bedruthan Steps for the DCs and me?

Or will I feel like a spare part with all the other couples around (like I did two years ago at Gurnard Pines on the IOW. It felt like the wives in the two surrounding lodges were viewing me with suspicion. I felt horrible.)

WWYD?

We went last year and there were loads of couples at dinner in the evening times... but I wouldn't necessarily have cared! Kids tucked into bed with the monitor system - lovely food and a glass of wine in peace! The spa is amazing an you could go when the kids are in the club. You will find people will chat to you even if it is a bit coupley! Totally loved it and would have loved to go back this year but we were bullied by the kids to go to Disney Paris... which was HELL!

Sorry your Disney trip was hell Mirrorball but thatnsk for the positive comments on Bedruthan. Just going to check out how long the journey will take...

5 and a half hours and that's without traffic jams!!!! Yuk! I wonder if I can stop off somewhere half way for one night. Where did you travel from Mirrorball?

We go to Bedruthan Steps every year. A couple of times dh has had to come home for a few days and I have taken a book to dinner. There are also always a couple of mother/daughter/grandchildren groups and some pairs of women friends with their own children.

thanks jicky. If you go back year after year you must love it huh? How far from the beach is it?

We drove from Cheshire... it is a bit of a journey, if you could stop halfway overnight I would do that. I think the same travelling time more or less, but SO worth it if you get the weather... we have some fantastic memories, the kids loved it!

The beach is a few mins walk down a hill... getting back up with sandy, tired kids is a bit of a killer! Views from hotel are lovely. We had an apartment so they had their own bedroom.

Kids definitely love it! Only a short walk to the beach. The thing to do is not take too much stuff - just reckon the walk is short enough to pop back so all the kids carry is a bucket and spade - the years we took loads of stuff for a day at the beach (changes of clothes etc) were hell getting them back.

thanks for the extra posts. I've had to abandon the Bedruthan Steps options because they want to charge me for two adults (that's their minimum) and so it's putting the price up to nearly £3000 for just one week .

So, I've booked Sands Resort instead. I've paid the deposit now so please only post if you have positive things to tell me .

hey what was this like?

We are staying at Sands on a week or so and wanted to know whether to go for the dinner bed and breakfast option. Is the food good enough to want to eat in for the evening most of the week? It is just that I know that if we prebook it we won't end uo eating out much, if at all, so was canvassing opinion on the quality of the food. Thanks
