Would you take back shoes that don't fit?

On Friday past, I spent £27 on new shoes for 22-month old DD3, at a local shoe shop (not a chain). Have shopped there before, and they've always been great. However, She's not liked putting the shoes on since about Sunday, and tonight DH noticed that they've rubbed a sore on her ankle.

Can I take them back and politely say that they've sold me a bum steer and can we have some different ones please? Even though she's worn them?

I know people who've done just that at Clarkes and John Lewis. I would certainly give it a try. Properly fitted shoes shoulnd't be making her feet sore.

Yes, if they have not fitted them properly.

I've taken kids shoes back to an independent shop before - they took them back no problem.

Poledra I've taken shoes back to Clarkes before with no problems (well a bit of tutting and a lot of me going but just look at her feet!).

If they rub then they haven't been fitted properly and you pay shoe shop prices to have them fitted properly. Otherwise Tescos would do!

Thanks all - shall trot back to the shop on Friday, and keep her in her sandals till then.

In case anyone's interested, I took the shoes back today. The lady in the shop checked the shoes, checked the date on my receipt and measured DD3's feet. Then she said 'Yes, it's our mistake, the shoes are too small. She's half a size bigger!!'

One pair of new shoes later, DD3 ran out of the shop a happy little girl, who doesn't have sore feet. And, following on from chats to a couple of other mums, I know which of the fitters to avoid in that shop in the future....................

Great news! Great service.

Children's shoes cost enough, good to know you didn't have to paid up for more.

That's good news. Maybe the other staff know about the fitter too which is why there was no arguement?
