A dear friend of mine is moving her small cake shop into much larger premises and expanding her business to include demonstrations, parties and such. I'd like to buy her a presents to show her how proud I am of her for doing so well with her business venture.
Any suggestions please? ideally it will be something that she can keep. I haven't come up with anything yet

TIA

My friend does something similar.

For her Christmas present - I created 2 montage posters (Snapfish) of about 24 photo's of her beautiful cakes.

She was verrrry happy.

great idea - thank you. TRouble is I don't have that many photos of her cakes, only about 8. Guess that would be enough for a small montage huh? or I can ask her husband to sneak me some more.

Yep that's what I had to do!

Something else I have done for her is ordered her an apron from here. They don't mention aprons on the site but they definitely do them.

friends DH is being no help at all with getting extra cake photos.
Anyone else got any ideas please?
TIA

mckenzie · 10/06/2010 14:55

how much do you want to spend? You could have 1 or 2 of the cake images enlarged and printed onto canvas to hang on her wall?

mckenzie · 10/06/2010 16:07

good idea oopsandbabycoconut. I'm going to the new shop today so i'll have a look and see how much hanging space there is. From memory, most of it is going to be covered in stock (it's a shop that sells all things cake related rather than ready to eat cakes).

Depends on how much you want to spend and what she is like as a person. How about a bracket with a cake charm?

www.lovethelinks.com/categories.php?ID=1 - about 40 for the two on here

CheeryCherry · 10/06/2010 21:58

Why not ask her for some cake photos? Say they are to show to a friend/potential buyer. The montage idea is lovely and she can hang them in her new premises.

CheeryCherry · 10/06/2010 21:58

BTW you sound a lovely friend!

thanks for the extra replies. It's too soon to buy anything for the walls of the shop as things are still being moved around. I think it's going to take her a while to get the layout exactly as she will like.

Last night I took a flower arrangement and a china mug with a pretty cake design (chosen by my DD, who is my friends goddaughter) and I am going to get her the bracelet with the cupcake charm on it (thank you Manda25). I like the idea that it is something very personal, just for her. And we're still going to get the personalised apron (thank you chaos) and save it for her birthday.

Thanks again everyone for all the ideas. Much appreciated.

Are you allowed to do a link to friend's shop mck? I would love to look at beautiful cakes while eating carrot sticks.

mckenzie · 13/06/2010 12:41

There isn't a finished website yet chaos, it's part of the new shop plan.
The shop is called Sugarsmith and it's in Hertford. When the website is up and running I'll let you know the address.
I went to the official first day yesterday and it had gone really well (even though the multi storey car park right close by is closed for renovation meaning the passing trade has disappeared for now). Even i was inspired and I am going to make DS's birthday cake myself (my friend has always made any celebration cakes in my family but the timing this time couldn't be more wrong. She's been too busy to sleep, let alone make a cake). It'll be a first for me but I've been given lots of tips and instructions so fingers crossed it will be okay. I might even post a photo!

That's fab - I'd love to see your efforts!

I think Sugarsmith is such a clever name for a shop - kudos to your friend.

Keep in touch.

What about buying her some advertising space to help the business
