Not sure if this is in the right place but here goes.
I have a 06 Renault Grand Scenic that i bought last February and also purchased a 2 year warranty for recovery breakdown and parts and labour (with some exclusions).

It went for it's service and MOT about a month ago and failed on lots of stuff. They wanted £600 to do the work .I took it away and got a neighbour who is a mechanic to kindly do the work for a lot less .Took it back after 3 days and it passed.

Then less than a week later the keycard failed to work so I called up the warranty people who came out and couldn't fix it so I had it towed back to the same garage i'd bought serviced and MOT'd it at.

5 days later they finaly got round to looking at it and confirmed it was the keycard and they had ordered another from France as an urgent delivery.I only had the one key as lost the other iceskating months ago unfortunately.

I checked the warranty and it said i was entitled to a replacement car after 24 hours subject to availability.Of course they had none available. After phoning back the garage several times and getting no where i complained to Renault.

I explained it had been now 16 days and i was finding it hard to manage with 3 young children one is disabled and another just 18 months old .The lady was very nice and understanding and said she would do all she could to find out what the hold up was and try and get me a replacement car.

However she later rang me to say there was nothing they could do as it was a part they were waiting for and no actual work was being carried out so all i could do was wait for the delivery with the keycard in it to arrive. This Thursday it will have been 3 weeks and we have had to cancel all our easter plans plus spend a fortune on taxis etc.
My Dad thinks i have a good case for contacting trading standards .Wwyd? Is there anything I can do? Sorry this is so long but I am at my wits end.

I would contact Trading Standards & see if they could help. It probably depends on the exact terms of your warranty maybe the small print says they only provide a replacement car if they have one but they are very helpful at TS, definitely do phone.

Thanks ,that's what I thought those few words 'subject to availability.'

You'd think there'd be some sort of time limit though. The garage told me it should take 7-10 working days so that excludes weekends and the oh so conveniant bank hol.Don't know if 7-10 days is just a guideline though .

If not then in effect they could keep your car for ever .And surely they can track parts being transported in this day and age it just doesn't seem to add up .

You're talking about car mechanics -- au fait with latest IT systems and logistics, they generally are not
